Strengthening German-American Relations Through Apprenticeship Excellence

The Next Level Apprenticeships program creates meaningful connections between American and German workforce development leaders to address a challenge facing both nations: the critical shortage of skilled workers across diverse industries.

A Bridge Between Nations

In an era where practical collaboration matters more than ever, apprenticeships offer a powerful opportunity to strengthen ties at the grassroots level. This program demonstrates that collaborating on workforce development creates lasting benefits for apprentices, companies, and communities on both sides of the Atlantic, building on the deep partnership between the two nations.

The Cluster Approach

This initiative brings together well-rounded teams—community college leaders, high school educators, corporate training managers, and policy makers—from hand-selected U.S. regions to experience Germany's renowned apprenticeship system firsthand. By traveling and learning together, these stakeholders return home ready to implement coordinated apprenticeship programs tailored to their specific regional needs.

How It Works

The program combines virtual workshops with intensive five-day study trips to Germany, where participants visit German companies, vocational schools, and chambers of commerce to see how industry and education collaborate to create world-class apprenticeship programs. Structured workshops before and after the Germany experience help participants translate German best practices into actionable strategies for their home communities.
