The US electric grid is a complex system of generation facilities, transmission lines, service providers and regulators that provides the foundation for the nation's economy, security and health with more than 9,200 generating facilities and over 600,000 miles of transmission lines. With the U.S. re-entering the Paris Climate Agreement, the grid faces a historic transformation to achieve decarbonization by 2035 and a net-zero economy by 2050. This will require a massive expansion and fundamental modernization of infrastructure, with 70% of transmission lines and 60% of circuit breakers over 30 years old.

With the Infrastructure and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, the US government has initiated investments of over USD 400 billion in renewable energy infrastructure, which opens up opportunities for German technology providers that can contribute to the transformation of the US power grid with innovative solutions. The target market analysis examines these opportunities, the investment environment and the technological solutions required to decarbonize the energy sector and expand the power grid.
