Connecting Midwest and German Cleantech Startup Ecosystems
Trip Dates: December 1–5, 2025 | Trip Locations: Chicago & Denver

In early December, the GACC Midwest organized a German expert delegation to the U.S. Midwest. The trip aimed to strengthen sustainable partnerships between German and U.S. innovation ecosystems in the fields of Deep Tech, Cleantech, Energy Security, and Climate Resilience. The delegation was designed for incubators, accelerators, technology centers, innovation officers, economic development agencies, network organizations, and selected start-ups interested in building long-term collaborations with leading actors in the Midwest.

During the trip, participants gained insights into the local innovation landscape, took part in exclusive visits to U.S. Cleantech companies, and established contacts with investors, corporations, as well as local universities and innovation hubs. Panels, workshops, and networking events facilitated direct exchange and provided visibility on a transatlantic stage.

Key Takeaways
  • Market Insights & Strategies: Participants received hands-on insights into the Midwest innovation ecosystem, a dynamic growth region for Deep Tech, Climate Tech, Cleantech, and Energy Security.
  • Effective Networking: Direct engagement with local stakeholders fostered partnerships and cross-regional collaboration.
  • Visibility on an International Stage: Participation in panels, workshops, and events strengthened the positioning of German organizations as partners for innovation and cooperation.
  • Exclusive Insights: On-site visits to U.S. Cleantech actors showcased how sustainability and economic development are practically integrated.
  • Investor & Corporate Connections: German start-ups learned firsthand the expectations and success factors of U.S. investors.

The delegation laid the groundwork for further transatlantic collaborations, deepened personal exchange, and opened new opportunities for strategic partnerships between German and U.S. innovation stakeholders.
