Dear Members and Friends,
September has been a truly busy month for GACCoM. Not only did we host a very successful German Night Reception at IMTS/IANA, we also welcomed the energy efficiency pavilion ‘dasHAUS’ at Daley Plaza in Chicago. The Grand Opening and Reception, the dasHAUS Chicago Conference, and the broad public programs showed the great interest this project faces from both the German and American perspective.
We would like to warmly welcome Dr. Christian Brecht, the new Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Chicago. We look forward to continuing our close cooperation with the Consulate General in the future.
Kind regards | Herzliche Grüße,

Given Germany’s leading role in the manufacturing and automation industry, GACCoM’s German Night Reception was a highlight at the 2012 IMTS/IANA. In order to recognize German investment in the Midwest, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and Chicago Deputy Mayor Steven Koch joined this extraordinary evening.
“Our diverse economy, well-trained workforce, and status as America’s transportation hub make Illinois an ideal place for business,” said Governor Quinn. “Companies from around the world are moving to Illinois to be close to our growing technology, advanced manufacturing and biotech sectors. To date, more than 180 German firms operate more than 750 facilities throughout the state employing over 35,776 people throughout the state.”
Deputy Mayor Koch added: “The vibrant city of Chicago is at the forefront of innovation and development in many major industries – it has astounding potential for German and international investment.”
For the first time ever, IMTS featured the International Automation North America (IANA), a co-operation between Deutsche Messe / Hannover Fair USA and the AMT – another proof of the fertile German-American partnership. Retrospectively, the 2012 IMTS/IANA was the most successful manufacturing event in more than a decade, which once more underlines the value of the vibrant business exchange supported by GACCoM. We would like to thank our partners GTAI and Hannover Fair USA for their support in the German Night reception.
GACCoM was pleased to present dasHAUS at Daley Plaza. Chicago was the eleventh stop of the 12-city, North American dasHAUS Tour – a mobile exhibition of innovative sustainable building technologies and concepts from Germany. During its 10-day stay in Chicago, professionals from the fields of architecture, engineering, and construction joined in an international dialogue on advanced energy efficiency and renewable energy building design. The grand opening ceremony featured speeches by Erin Lavin Cabonargi, Executive Director, Public Building Commission, Karen Weigert, Chief Sustainability Officer for the City of Chicago, Deputy Consul General Helmut Rausch as well as Alderman Reilly.
After its very successful stay in Chicago, which showcased the common efforts public officials, the building community, and GACCoM are making for a more sustainable future, dasHAUS moves on to Colorado for the final stop of its North American tour.
In Denver, the pavilion will be open to the public daily from 10am-6pm, from Oct 14 – 23.
Please visit the dasHAUS website for more details about events and tours.
