Together with German subsidiaries in the U.S., we are looking forward to a successful 2013: On the occasion of our 50th Anniversary, we invite you to a first class program covering a broad range of German-American business activities, such as the Annual Economic Forum on January 31, 2013. German American Business Outlook 2013

The German American Business Outlook 2013 discovered that German companies in the United States had a successful business year 2012 and look optimistically toward 2013. 95% of firms expect growth for their own business, while 87% anticipate the U.S. economy to grow. Even though 2012 stayed slightly behind expectations, German companies are bullish about 2013 and believe in the new administration’s focus on economic improvement in the U.S. The majority of firms find themselves well positioned to strategically focus on growth, expansion, and innovation by introducing new product lines and increasing their workforce – 76% (compared to 67% last year) of firms expect to create new jobs in the next year. Approximately 12% of the 1,900 subsidiaries contacted used this excellent opportunity to make their voices heard toward economic and political stakeholders as well as the media.

GACCoM on the Road

The Skills Initiative Lands in Ohio

Thirteen German business leaders with Ohio-based subsidiaries met with Ambassador Peter Ammon and Ohio Governor John Kasich, together with GACCoM Vice President Mark Tomkins on December 5. GACCoM helped organize this meeting as part of the broader Skills Initiative. The discussion also included Presidents of leading community colleges in Ohio, many of which are already partnering with German companies. One of the goals of the meeting was to explore Germany's expertise in vocational training and how to make Ohio's businesses stronger through applying principles of Germany’s dual education and training system. The Skills Initiative seeks to bring together businesses from both sides of the Atlantic as well as local educational institutions with the aim of developing training programs best suited to businesses’ needs. German investment already accounts for over 30,000 jobs in Ohio and many business leaders signaled their plans for expanding their workforce in the state, contributing to the strong job growth that Ohio has experienced over the past year.

February 2013 Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg Lyric Opera, Chicago, IL

This glorious masterwork stands with The Ring as the ultimate test for singers, chorus, and orchestra. At its heart, a song contest that will transform the society in which it takes place. Nürnberg’s ancient guild of mastersingers is looking for a work of art—a shining beacon of poetry and music. In Wagner’s only foray into comedy, great art triumphs over all in one of the most joyous and overwhelming achievements in the history of music.
