Dear Members and Friends,
2013 has truly been a remarkable year for GACC Midwest. As we have celebrated our 50th Anniversary, we put on events and initiatives that have been bigger and better than ever before, either by improving our traditional events or by adding new ones. In the course of the year, our membership grew, and we opened a new office in Michigan – our first fully-staffed office outside of Chicago – to meet the growing demand for our services. Celebrating our achievements of the last 5 decades, we were also honored to host numerous high-ranking visitors from the DIHK, BMWi, and the German government.
None of this would be possible without the support of our members, directors, Chapters, partners, and friends. Thank you to all who attended and supported our events, to all of our sponsors, and to those who have partnered with us in all of our projects and initiatives, ranging from skilled workforce initiatives, to export initiatives and visiting delegations, to our Anniversary Book and German American Water Technology Magazine, to the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, and the list goes on. Your support has been essential to our success.
We hope to see you once more this year at our Jingle Mingle on December 18 for an evening of celebration, networking, and holiday fun in the family-friendly atmosphere of the Christkindlmarket Chicago.
We wish you all the best for the upcoming holiday season and new year, and look forward to working with you in 2014.
Best wishes | Herzliche Grüße,
President & CEO

On the occasion of RSNA taking place in Chicago, GACC Midwest organized a German Networking Reception for the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research to advise on Germany's research landscape and the “Research in Germany” initiative.
This reception brought together German research consortia and networks, as well as local professionals from the medical technology industry. This evening event took place on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the Festival Tent at the Chicago Christkindlmarket - a truly unique setting! Approximately 100 guests met and developed new contacts all while enjoying typical German holiday food and drinks in a festive holiday atmosphere.
GACC Midwest and Wirtschaftsförderung Sachsen welcomed a Machinery Delegation from Saxony to Chicago from December 2-5, 2013. The delegation visited Chicago and the surrounding areas to explore partnership opportunities with US companies and to consider expanding business activities in the Midwest. The delegates from ACTech, ACSYS, and Mikromat met with potential business partners and customers, toured US manufacturing facilities, and learned more about US machinery and manufacturing. There was also a VIP dinner in honor of our delegates, which provided networking and partnership opportunities between the delegates and local professionals from the machinery sector and beyond. The delegation trip was very successful and we look forward to welcoming more delegates in 2014!
Last month, the Transatlantic Program for Young Technology Leaders (TAP-YTL) completed its second delegation trip to Germany this year. A group of twelve select students and young professionals had the opportunity to engage with German experts in the industry to explore the latest trends in automotive research and development. The program led the participants on a trip from Aachen to the Frankfurt Area, Stuttgart, and finally Munich over a span of nine days. Stops during the trip included a full day at RWTH Aachen, one of Germany’s leading universities for engineering, visits to major OEMs like BMW, Daimler, and Opel, as well as world class suppliers to the automotive industry. Of course, there were also plenty of opportunities for the participants to experience a broad spectrum of German culture, food, and “Gemütlichkeit” along the way. Stay tuned for upcoming TAP editions in 2014!
GACC Midwest had the pleasure to welcome Kevin Masi, Cofounder and Principal of Torque Ltd. on December 12, 2013 for this month’s installment of our monthly Knowledge Exchange series.
