ChamberBrief 2016: October Edition

Dear Readers,

We’re bringing in the busy fall season with celebration and exuberance. On October 3, we celebrated Germany’s reunification at events in Washington DC, Chicago, and Detroit. Soon, we will end October with a bang at our much anticipated Smart Factory Industry Forum and GACC Awards Gala.

What's new this year – you don't have to wait until the Gala to find out who won the prestigious German American Business Awards. The judges had a tough task, and we are proud to announce our 2016 winners. Join them in celebrating their excellence on October 28 and read more about what else the Gala has in store for you this year.

Industry 4.0 needs to be on your company's agenda. It can not only increase your productivity, but also help you create new products and business models. Our Smart Factory Industry Forum preceding the gala explores opportunities related to Industry 4.0 and presents innovative solutions, transforming your ideas of manufacturing. Register here and learn from industry leaders such as GE, Bosch Rexroth, and Siemens.

October has been designated as manufacturing month, and our Skills Initiative team is spreading the word about the value of apprenticeships in the US. The Wall Street Journal recently highlighted our very own ICATT program on the front page of the business section. The week of November 14-18 is National Apprenticeship Week, during which we will host open houses with seven companies participating in our apprenticeship program ICATT. Read more on the ICATT website and in the latest  AHK USA Skills Newsletter.

Immigration has proven to be a key topic for our members as per past German American Business Outlook (GABO) surveys, and has recently been addressed at our Business Luncheon. This year’s GABO comes at quite a decisive time in the US. German-American trade is at an all-time high, yet this year’s US presidential election could greatly affect the future of our businesses. The survey will open on November 9 and results will be presented at JP Morgan Chase in New York City on December 5.

Lastly, if you are looking to increase your visibility among expanding companies, economic developers, and more, check out your advertising opportunities in our GACC Midwest Report 2016, an exciting review and preview of our work and the German-American business community. Make sure to be a part of this unique resource for our network.

We look forward to seeing you at the GACC Awards Gala and Smart Factory Industry Forum.

Kind regards,
Your GACC Midwest Team
