ChamberBrief 2016: November Edition

Dear Readers,

Today is your last chance to participate in the German American Business Outlook 2017. This survey measures the state of transatlantic trade and captures German companies’ economic outlook and expectations for the newly elected administration. Join us for the presentation of the results at JP Morgan in New York on December 5, and hear Deputy Consul General Mario Soos share his view at our Business Luncheon in Schaumburg, IL, on December 7. The GACCs have seen strong growth in transatlantic business under different administrations over the past 60 years, and remain committed to fostering strong German-American trade relations.

To help further transatlantic innovation and collaboration within industry clusters, we launched the Transatlantic Cluster initiative in early 2016. Last week, we commenced the second phase by taking a delegation of American metalworking companies on a 5-day visit to Germany. There, participants spoke with key business and research institutions in the German metalworking industry and interacted with leading industry associations and clusters. The Cluster initiative continues in February with a US roadshow focused on lightweighting technologies. For more details, stay up-to-date with the cluster newsletter

In facilitating the height of German-American trade, our team welcomed a delegation of several innovative manufacturing technology companies last week. They came from the German state of Thüringen to showcase their innovations and participate in panel discussions at several companies in Chicago and Detroit. Transatlantic delegations and initiatives like these strengthen our countries’ ties by sharing perspectives in industry and building new business partnerships.

This past week was National Apprenticeship Week in the US. To allow high school students and their parents to get an inside look at how to get into our ICATT program, we hosted several open houses at participating ICATT companies. Students even had the chance to land an interview with companies actively seeking apprentices.

Just as important as the transatlantic business climate are the cultural relations between Germany and the US. Our annual Christkindlmarket is a major display of German culture in the heart of Chicago and Naperville. While attendees of our exclusive preview event “Twas the Night Before Christkindlmarket” already had the chance to get into the holiday spirit in a more private atmosphere, the Chicago market is now officially open to the public. Our new market in Naperville opens the day after Thanksgiving on Friday, November 25. Join us and take advantage of the great member discounts at both markets.

Lastly, please save the date for our 2017 GACC Awards Gala: Friday, October 13, 2017. This year’s Gala and Smart Factory Industry Forum were a great success. Thank you to all of you who attended and joined us in celebrating German-American excellence.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events.

Have a great Thanksgiving,
Your GACC Midwest Team
