ChamberBrief 2016: March Edition

Dear Members and Friends,

This month, the Midwest was able to show off as an investment location: In Site Selection magazine's Governor's Cup 2016, the Midwest is taking the top spots in almost all of the rankings! In “Dare to be Greater” our CEO Mark Tomkins states why the Midwest is a hot investment target for German companies.

Given this trend, our Midwest SME Forum saw high-level executives from the Chicago FED, Felsomat, Haribo, Harting, Ipsen, IMA, Komet, Kuehne & Nagel, Nixon Peabody, Plasmatreat, Robert Bosch, Roedl & Partner, Viessmann, Weil Engineering and Wittenstein zero in on key issues to set up German subsidiaries for success in the Midwest.

Manufacturing Panelists and Keynote Speaker

During our Annual Member Meeting, that took place just after the SME Forum in its new format, we looked back onto a successful year with our vibrant network. We elected a new Board of Directors and welcome Thomas Ginschel, CEO / President of Zentis and Susanne Resatz, President of Vetter Development Services USA, as new members to our leadership.

We also bade farewell to Jayne Riemer-Chishty, our Membership and Chamber Development Director, who is relocating to California with her family. Jayne pointed out the significant growth of our chamber during her 6 years with us, and we are glad we could honor her tremendous efforts with so many of our member companies present. We wish her all the best in the Golden State.

Once more, our SME Forum outlined the importance of the skills topic, and apprenticeship programs are rapidly gaining popularity in the US. We are happy to make significant progress in developing those programs together with companies and colleges across our entire region. Based on the huge public interest, our skills team was active between Colorado and Ohio to meet with interested companies, schools, and students. We will also launch a new national skills newsletter soon. Please contact Sinan Ordu to sign up!

In gearing up for Hannover Messe, our team filled the US Investment Pavilion in cooperation with Select USA and the US Department of Commerce. If you are in Hannover and ready to expand to the US market, come see us at the pavilion in Hall 3 and make sure to browse the pavilion and attend our AHK USA Events at the show. See the event overview here!

    Kind regards,
    Your GACC Midwest Team
