We are happy to announce that the 20th Christkindlmarket is now open to the public! So go ahead, grab a Glühwein, a Bratwurst or a Strudel and welcome the weekend ahead! 

Some of you already had the chance to get a Sneak Peek of the market last night at our exclusive event, "T'was the night before Christkindlmarket". With a great performance by the Christkind herself, delicious traditional food and a unique opportunity to sample some of the vendor booths, the mood for this year's holiday season was definitely set.

Our Skills Initiative has drawn a lot of media attention this month, being featured in the Illinois Manufacturer Fall Issue (pages 10-12) as well as a in the Journal Star, which covered the National Apprenticeship Week at the Illinois Central College attended by our Skills Director Mario Kratsch as well as GACC Midwest President & CEO Mark Tomkins, who was quoted in the article. HANNOVER MESSE 2016, April 25-29

Congratulations to Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, and now also Missouri, who will officially join the US Investment Pavilion at Hannover Messe 2016! It’s important to get the contracts in by November 30, 2015 since booth assignments will start soon, early registrants will get special consideration, and the US Investment Pavilion will be opened also to investment service providers after November 30, 2015. The US Investment Pavilion is open to EDOs as well as other economic development organizations involved in promoting and assisting FDI. Information on the opportunities with Partner Country USA and Hannover Messe is available online with new information here. Also, we are talking to German federal states on assisting them with their Hannover Fair strategies to bring US and German companies together.

T'was the night before Christkindlmarket

And what a night it was! Before the official opening of the Christkindlmarket today, members and friends of GACC Midwest came together last night to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Christkindlmarket with a special performance by the Christkind. Attendees had the chance to stroll around the market without the usual crowds and to explore some selected booths and walk-in cabins at the market. Next to Glühwein, guests enjoyed some traditional German food including Schnitzel, Sauerkraut and of course Pretzels in a cozy tent atmosphere. Of course traditional entertainment was provided as well: a trio with accordions and trumpets in Lederhosen as well as a victorian christmas caroling ensemble set the holiday mood.

HR-Circle Social Evening @ the Christkindlmarket

The HR-Circle Social Evening will take place on Friday, December 4th at the Christkindlmarket in Downtown Chicago. This jovial, informal and fun night is open exclusively to HR Managers and Executives from member companies of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest. A table will be reserved for the HR-Circle members and one Glühwein and one Pretzel are included. In order to make reserve a table size appropriate for our group, we request that you please let us know if you are planning to attend by Wednesday, November 25th. The Christkindlmarket Chicago will be held on Daley Plaza in the Loop. Farmer's Roundtable - A Transatlantic Dialogue on Dairy Production and Trade

At our Famer's roundtables German and American farmers discussed dairy production and different management practices in Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois from November 16 – 19, 2015 within the scope of GACC Midwest’s initiative “Transatlantic Dialogue -Agricultural Perspectives”. This 2-year initiative is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy through the European Recovery Program. For the second topic of this initiative, “Dairy Production & Trade”, GACC Midwest partnered with the Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa Farm Bureau. Two roundtable discussions with local farmers and site-visits to various dairy farms, the American Breeders Service (ABS) Global and the Dairy Research Center at the University of Madison provided an opportunity to discuss dairy production in both countries and agricultural trade with regard to TTIP and its consequences for farmers on both sides of the Atlantic.

Staff & Services Spotlight

Alexandra Lindner, Assistant Manager (Events) | German American Services, Inc.

This year's Christkindlmarket marks the second market for our Assistant Manager Alexandra, working for German American Services, Inc. (GASI). Her main responsibilities involve organizing and promoting Stammtische, Receptions, the Kinder Club and Special Events as well as the communication with German vendors.

Alexandra holds a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Bayreuth and has spent a semester abroad at the Universidad de Guadalajara in Mexico. During her time as an Au Pair in New Jersey, she furthermore attented classes in Marketing, English and French at Seton Hall University. She has gained work experience as a Research Assistant and Project Manager at the University of Bayreuth as well as an Key Account Manager Intern with Robert Bosch GmbH.

GACC Midwest Energy Efficiency Programs

Present your company at GACC Midwest’s 2016 Innovation Seminars on Intelligent Transportation Systems at four renowned Midwestern Universities.

The Innovation Seminars will take place from April 11-14, 2016 at the University of Kentucky, Michigan State University, Purdue University and Northwestern University

During the transatlantic knowledge exchange students and faculty memberswill have the chance to explore cutting-edge technology from Germany. Presenting companies will be able to showcase career opportunities and explore collaboration opportunities.

The Energy Efficiency Award Challenge is supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as part of the "Energy Efficiency - Made in Germany" Initiative. The competition will take place on April 7, 2016 in Chicago and has the goal to increase awareness of energy efficient building technologies “made in Germany”.
