ChamberBrief 2015: April Edition

Dear Members and Friends,

Virginia Rounds (r.) together with Dr. Glenny Holdhof, Geschäftsführerin of our member EDUR at Hannover Messe

VP Mark Tomkins with Managing Director Markus Schuler at our member company Wieland, talking Skills

While it's finally getting warm and pleasant in Chicago, many of us would have liked to have been in Germany last week to visit Hannover Messe, the world's biggest industrial fair. Our Vice President Mark Tomkins and Consulting Director Virginia Rounds were there representing GACC Midwest, speaking at events and meeting with business partners and many of our members. We are pleased that our member company WITTENSTEIN won the prestigious Hermes Award. We are also thrilled that Hannover Messe announced the US as its official Partner Country in 2016, which will provide an excellent opportunity for states and regions throughout the US to showcase themselves to potential German investors.

On March 24th we held our GACC Midwest Annual Member and Board Meeting. We are excited to welcome our new board members: Matthias Amberg, Partner at Roedl & Partner; Peter Kamps, VP of Finance in Field Operations North America at Siemens Industry, Inc., Building Technologies Division; Michael E. Richter, Managing Director and Shareholder at J.S. Richter Ltd., CPAs; Marco Siebert, Director of International Relations at Deutsche Messe AG and Uwe Peregi, General Manager at Hermann Ultrasonics, Inc. will be joining the Board of Directors 2015/16. For a complete overview of the Board, please click here

ICATT will be hosting information sessions at District 214 High Schools on April 28 (at Rolling Meadows and Elk Grove High School) and May 1 (at Wheeling). Several of our participating ICATT companies including Wieland Metals, Harting and Wittenstein will present opportunities in their companies during these events. District 211 high schools and others in our area are finalizing dates for connecting their students to opportunities for manufacturing apprenticeships in the near future.

Furthermore our annual GACC Membership Directory is in the making, creating valuable advertisement opportunities for your business and presenting a great way to increase your visibility in the German-American business community. Best wishes | Herzliche Grüße,

Updates from Hannover Messe 2015

Our Vice President Mark Tomkins as well as our Director of Consulting Services, Virginia Rounds attended Hannover Messe last week, where they met with members, as well as existing and potential clients. They worked to prepare for the big US Partner Country events in 2016 (more info coming soon!), taking special note of the amazing Indian presence this year. Virginia presented at the US Forum on Business Opportunities for German Machinery & Equipment Manufacturers, which featured Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, CMO Dr. Helmuth Ludwig of Siemens PLM Software, and many more to promote transatlantic business opportunities.

Our member company WITTENSTEIN was awarded with the HERMES Award 2015, the world's most important industrial award. True to their motto “Discover Infinite Possibilities”, WITTENSTEIN introduced the Galaxie Drive System, which is promising to propel drive system engineering into a new performance universe. “Everyone at WITTENSTEIN feels very honored to receive the HERMES Award 2015. It recognizes the high degree of quality and innovation we’re driving in our company. The scope of this innovation and the next level of high performance engineering it enables were immediately recognized in the U.S. market: We already sold the product into the high-tech aircraft industry in the U.S. – a great example of how German engineering cooperates with and supports American companies to pioneer in technology,” says Peter Riehle, President & CEO of WITTENSTEIN, Inc.

Hannover Messe announced the USA as the official Partner Country of Hannover Messe in 2016, creating great opportunities for the German-American business environment. Ambassador Peter Wittig pointed out the importance of this event: “Having the USA as the featured partner country will give us a golden opportunity to convey our dynamic business relations to the fullest while at the same time widening and deepening them.”
