ChamberBrief 2018: May Edition

Dear Members and Friends,

Our global network shows that despite political tensions worldwide, German business abroad is growing solidly. This is one of the results of DIHK's spring AHK World Business Outlook. The business climate for German companies in the US is especially good.

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner took a business delegation on an 8+ day jobs and trade mission to Germany. Our CEO Mark Tomkins accompanied the governor as he learned more about apprenticeship systems and explored opportunities for growing trade and investment. Many of our member companies welcomed the governor, and he met several more at the Hannover Messe. The governor's visit was timely, since the world's largest industrial trade show will be hosted abroad for the first time this year - in conjunction with IMTS at McCormick Place in Chicago.

To support our growing network, we are excited to share our new special publications on "M&A in the US" (in English and German) and "Successful Recruiting in the US". These valuable resources provide insights for German companies looking to expand in the US and are available online and at our events. We're currently working on our third special publication of 2018: "The Future of Automotive". If you're an expert in new mobility, please contact us to review your options or check out our Media Kit.

Our global network met at the AHK Weltkonferenz at DIHK in Berlin this past week to map out our Strategy 2025 for the AHK network. We are excited to announce our ICATT Apprenticeship Program won the new INNOVATION@AHK Award in a global competition of AHK projects. Follow us on social media to stay up-to-date on news from our network.

Last but not least, our esteemed Vice President Werner Ott is leaving GACC Midwest for his retirement at the end of May. We would like to thank Werner for his leadership, insights and dedicated work at GACC Midwest. We wish him much happiness, good health, and success upon his return to Germany.

Enjoy the read!
