ChamberBrief 2017: October Edition

Dear Members and Friends,

October has been a true month of excellence for the Chamber: Many of you joined us in honoring the 2017 GACC Award Winners last week. Check out our pictures of the event on Facebook and tag yourself! Then, Brose North America was announced the winner of the GACC Apprenticeship Award, recognizing their leadership in workforce development. Finally, our ICATT apprenticeship program was awarded the Community Empowerment Award during The Fourth Revolution Awards ceremony. All these awards showcase the strength and dedication of our network.

For anyone who missed the festivities, another fun event is right around the corner. Be the first to visit our iconic Christkindlmarket at 'Twas the Night Before Christkindlmarket on November 16. Get exclusive access to the vendors offering traditional food, beverages and other goods before Christkindlmarket Chicago opens to the public on November 17 at Daley Plaza.

As we are analyzing your submissions to the German American Business Outlook survey, we would like to thank you for your participation. Your invaluable input on the state of German business in the US is vital for our work in supporting German-American trade and investment. Be sure to join us in New York, NY on December 11 when we, along with KPMG and RGIT will present the results and hold discussions on the future of transatlantic business.

Your GACC Midwest Team

Our 2017 GACC Awards Gala was an outstanding showcase of excellence in German-American business. As we recognized the 2017 winners, our guests had ample opportunity to network, meet new and old members, and enjoy performances by The CoverGirls and The Mix. Congratulations once again to this year's GACC Award winners, and thank you to all of our supporters who made this evening possible.

Michigan-based company Brose North America, Inc. receives this year’s GACC Apprenticeship Award for its leadership and innovation in workforce development by implementing German standard apprenticeship programs in the US. The award honors their investment in education and the creation of valuable career pathways for future generations. Brose will receive the award on November 15 at a special ceremony at RGIT in Washington, DC during National Apprenticeship Week. Congratulations to Brose!

The apprenticeship program ICATT has been honored with the Community Empowerment Award during The Fourth Revolution Awards ceremony. The awards were established by mHUB, IMEC, and UI LABS to award the best and brightest of the Chicago region’s manufacturing community. This award highlights the efforts of our dedicated staff and member companies, and is a testament to our engagement for sustainable development of workforce and manufacturing in the region. Our first Digitalization Forum featured speeches and panels on digital trends spanning all industries. Executives from companies like IBM, BMW Technology, MPDV USA and Siemens discussed how to stay relevant and competitive in this fast-moving digital world through the collection and analysis of data and more. Thank you to Howard Tullman and 1871 for hosting our Forum, and to our moderator and panelists.

From October 16-20, the Transatlantic Cluster Initiative brought US Health Care & MedTech professionals to Germany to learn from and exchange knowledge with key players of the German Health Care & Medical Tech industry, including business and research institutions. We are constantly striving to to improve and develop our Chamber. In that spirit, we are happy to announce Virginia Attaway-Rounds as the new Director of the Skills Initiative. After serving as Director of Consulting Services for many years, Virginia will be handing Consulting leadership over to long-term staff and new Directors Corinna Jess and Gerrit Ahlers.

We also renamed our Career Services department to Recruiting Services to help members and clients navigate and access our services. Let us support your recruiting, place your job openings in our GACC Talent Network, or get candidates sourced directly from us with the Talent Spotlight
