Transatlantic Cluster Initiative

Roadshow on Lightweighting Technology and Materials

Lightweighting technology and materials are becoming increasingly important in many industries both in Germany and the United States. There are three industries, however, where lightweight has played an important role in product design almost from their inceptions: automotive, aviation, and wind energy. In these industries, the use of lightweight materials and design is expected to grow continuously in the coming decades. Leading lightweighting materials are aluminum, magnesium, carbon composites and high-strength steel. Through the enormous changes in the material mix, significant challenges and opportunities will emerge – automotive suppliers and the machinery industry are expected to be the key beneficiaries.

To build on these developments, GACC Midwest organized a roadshow on the topic of Lightweighting Technologies & Materials on February 13-17, 2017 in the US.
